MARSHFIELD KIDS AT PLAY, INCORPORATED
Frequently Asked Questions

What is Marshfield Kids at Play, Incorporated?

Marshfield Kids at Play, Incorporated, also referred to as MKAP, is a non-profit corporation organized for the purpose of raising money to fund the design and construction of a new community playground for the Town of Marshfield.  Recognizing the void left when the “Mazes” playground was torn down in ____, a group of  local parents joined together to fill this void by working towards the construction of a new playground for our community.

Where will the new playground be located?

Several prospective sites have been considered for the location of the playground. The location of the new playground will be in Library Plaza, located off Snow Road in Marshfield Center.

When will the new playground be constructed?

It is anticipated that the new playground will be constructed during 2009.  This, of course, is dependent upon the finalization of the site for the playground as well as the availability of funds for the design and construction of the playground.

What will the new playground look like?

MKAP anticipates that the design for the new playground will be developed based on recommendations from the community and, in particular, the children of the community.  Later this year, MKAP intends to hold “design days” during which brainstorming for the playground theme and appearance will take place.

Will the new playground have any special features that make it unique to the area?

During initial discussions, MKAP determined that it felt it was important that the new community playground benefited the community as a whole.  As a result, a decision was made to construct a playground that is accessible for all, regardless of physical abilities.  MKAP anticipates that the new playground will be accessible to all individuals.  To facilitate this, the playground design will include ramps to all levels of the climbing structure.  It will further incorporated play features - such as swings and slides - that may be accessed by individuals in wheelchairs.  The playground will further be equipped with flooring which easily accommodates wheelchair access.  The accessibility of Marshfield’s new community playground is especially important as there are no other similar playgrounds on the South Shore.

How can I help?

There are a number of ways to help MKAP reach its goal of building a new playground for the Marshfield community.  Volunteers are always needed and appreciated.  Volunteering opportunities exist in staffing informational booths at local events, distributing informational material, providing assistance at fundraising activities, as well as in many other roles.  MKAP also greatly appreciates donations, monetary or otherwise.  As the plan for the playground construction further develops, it is anticipated that there will be opportunities for businesses and individuals to make contributions with acknowledgement within the playground.

How can I sign up to volunteer or make a contribution?
